Hand Stripping
.
Hand stripping is a specialized grooming technique used primarily for wire-haired and some silky-coated dog breeds. Instead of clipping the coat, hand stripping involves manually removing dead outer hairs by plucking them out at the root. This encourages new, healthy coat growth while maintaining the coat’s natural texture and vibrant color. Why Hand Stripping? - Preserves Coat Texture – Keeps wire-haired coats rough and natural instead of soft and fluffy. - Enhances Coat Color – Prevents dulling that can happen with clipping. - Encourages Healthy Regrowth – Removes dead hair to allow fresh, strong hair to grow. - Maintains Breed Standard – Essential for show dogs and certain breeds like Terriers, Schnauzers, and Spaniels. Since hand stripping can be time-consuming please expect the grooming process to take longer than our standard grooming length. Please note that handstripping can only be undertaken on certain coat types and if there are no skin issues present.
